This Week in Math...

Today we worked on addition and subtraction with money. The homework assignment was to create 10 questions covering the material we've worked on so far in class. The questions were to be broken down as follows:

3 digit - 2 digit subtraction
3 digit - 3 digit subtraction
Wild Card Subtraction
3 digit + 2 digit addition
3 digit + 3 digit addition
Wild Card Addition
Place Value with a Number Greater than 10,000
Addition Word Problem
Subtraction Word Problem
Wild Card Question (Student can pick any topic)

Students must be able to solve and explain the questions they come up with. Parents are welcome to help, but they must be within the capability of the student. The questions will be due tomorrow (Tuesday). I will select some of the questions the students create, then add my own for the test on place value, addition and subtraction on Wednesday.

To Recap:
Tuesday- Review place value, addition, subtraction
Wednesday- Test on place value, addition & subtraction

Thursday we will work on patterns, comparing and ordering numbers.
Friday we will play a couple different games and keep working on number sense.

Monday we will get started on multiplication, and we will cover multiplication for about two weeks, ending with a test.

That gets us well into October, so I think we'll stop there for now!

Hello Explorers!

This blog will help keep parents and students all more aware of what goes on in math class. I'll update what we're working on in class, and post additional practice exercises. This way, even if students forget planners, you can keep up on homework assignments and test days.

Most parents are aware by know, but we track our behavior, effort and achievement every day at the end of class. Students rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 for each category, then I rate them. Planners are expected to be signed on days when students score a 1 or 2 in any category. In addition, parents can expect there to be a homework assignment every night except on test days. I will try to update the blog every week, posting the subject of math classes for the week and any announcements.

Feel free to comment or contact me at the school with any questions!
